Greenkeepers

We welcome a new addition to the green keeping team

Jeff Tuoro our new 2IC joined the team the week of Maori Nationals. Jeff has come from Miramar GC and for me it still seems a little strange seeing Jeff mowing the greens here and not i

n Wellington! Jeff is the young bearded boy who is a talented golfer and was a Wellington Golf Representative. I’m looking forward to catching up with him soon for a game!

Speed Golf

I have bent Dan’s arm and managed to get him onto to the Tahara Course for Speed Golf prior to opening on a Saturday morning. We managed 9 holes in 28 minutes! Look who looks exhausted!!!

Administrators

Melita recently joined our team. There have been some challenges given the demands as a result of the recent tournaments for the whole team but especially our newest recruits. Hang in there Melita we will get there.

Pro Shop

Dan and I are super excited about our two new staff members. We are thrilled Kevin has returned to the fold after a much needed break. Kevin’s knowledge, can do attitude and willingness to get on with the job is valued. Along with Kevin we welcome Lucy who will work a couple of days a week. Lucy comes with a range of skills and will work with me initially on the days when Kevin and Dan are on their days off. Lucy will have her trainer wheels for a few weeks while she is learning the ropes.

Getting back to working normal hours will really be a buzz for Dan and me as we have both been covering an insane number of hours over the past six weeks averaging 60-80 hours a week. Our apologies if we have appeared “brain dead” – we probably have been.

With the assistance of the board we are reconfiguring the Pro Shop. Our workshop is going to be moved and our office reconfigured. The carpet has been removed for the new workshop and a wall will be built over the coming weeks to allow us to set up the workshop. Watch out for further updates as work progresses.

POS Members Credit System

As many of you are aware the club would like to continue with member’s credit in the pro-shop. We are currently having a few teething issues with how this is working within our point of sale system and reconciling this with new software program. Melita and I are in the process of researching how this can be achieved. As a result of this we are visiting another club who runs a similar system to explore how we can find some solutions to the issues we are experiencing. On a positive note your credits are building up so for those of you who have credits there is going to be a healthy balance once where into action.

Cart Shed

The shed is now cleaned up and sorted. We really appreciate those of you who remove your rubbish at the end of the day from the cart you have hired. This makes cleaning the carts a much easier task as you will appreciate it is a time consuming task cleaning and sorting the carts at the end of the day.

Past events

DAE Invitational 9 hole Tournament – Sunday 7th – Thursday 11th May 2017

Unique to NZ with four 9-hole courses. This year we had 98 golfers competing.

This event was a big learning curve for the team in the pro-shop. It’s the first time we have ever run an event with effectively four courses with four fields including daily results and overall results. Without prior knowledge we worked to resolve potential issues before they eventuated. Well done team. Special thanks to our extraordinaire - Rick Martin: Tournament Director who brought a smile to the event every day. Perhaps we need to have a locals versus the rest of the world trophy next year.

We couldn’t celebrate the hole in one being struck so there is a goal for next year. If you ever need an excuse to play then having a chance to win a brand-new Subaru maybe it.

Maori Golf Nationals 23rd – 28th April

A very special thanks to the volunteers aka GREAT MEMBERS who helped with results, rules, cart and club storage spotting and entering results for this event. Our stars were:

Ron

Linda

Chris

Helen

Wynne

Tom - thank so much for your help!

If you would like to be a volunteer AKA GREAT MEMBER at our next big event please let Renee know. Most of the jobs are one to two hours at the start or end of the day. Our appreciation is all we can provide but our volunteers are really the heart of the smooth running of these events.

Dan and I had some blurry eyed days with 5.30am starts and long days during the week.

Letter of Appreciation (Aroha Tito – Tournament Director)

Kia Ora Mark,

Just a quick and more formal note of thanks to you and the Taupo Golf Club for the awesome week of the Maori Nationals 2017. Please pass on my thanks to John Marshall and the Board, your committees, Renee and Dan, Aiden, Bunter and the crew in the Cafe and definitely the Green Keeping Staff.

I hadn't played in the Nationals since it was centralised and had not played at Centennial either!

See you on the course!

Nga mihi,

Aroha
