FAIRWAY TIMES

Meri Kirihimete Merry Christmas

From Renee’s Desk

As 2017 comes to an end it is a time to reflect on our golfing year – celebrating our successes and acknowledging what we can improve on. Christmas has become a special time of year to catch up with friends and family/ whanau and enjoy each other’s company – I hope you all have a chance to enjoy the company of your family/ whanau and/or your special friends. Tolerance over the Christmas New Year period is essential as local population trebles during the holiday period. I have been reflecting myself on what tolerance really encompasses and how it can help in all aspects of our lives.

“The benefits of tolerance lie in respect of others and the acceptance of difference. Tolerance also implies that we are all unique and different. When a person is intolerant they focus on differences.

Lack of tolerance leads to fighting, violence, and finally it destroys the peace and security of our society. When people fail in their arguments they become intolerant, and then they use force and aggression to support their point of view.

Tolerance can be shown in many ways, on different occasions and at different times. A person might fully disagree with others on any issue, from religion to politics, while at the same time honouring and respecting those with different ideas and opinions and treating them with full dignity and honour.

Tolerance is needed in all spheres of life, and on every level and on every stage, because it plays a vital role to establish peace and love, from the smallest unit up to the highest unit of society.

Tolerance does not mean that only one person or party shows tolerance and the others do not. When some people disagree on a certain issue they must advocate and express their opinion in a respectful manner, and hateful and provocative words should not be used. Tolerance must be shown from both sides on issues, in order for it to be effective”. Psychology Today 2017

From the Board:

A big thank you to:

John Marshall as we farewell him as Chair of the Board (although I still need your help in the Pro Shop John!) and

Maggie Rudd as Women’s Club Captain who has stepped down. She has been a great advocate for the Women and kept us all on our game!

In the next Fairway times we will profile our new Board members.

Pro Shop Staff

I am thrilled to welcome Carl Musticone and Anne Graham as our new staff in the Pro Shop. Both Carl and Anne are passionate golfers and bring a wide range of skills and experiences with them that enhance our service. Come in and say hello!

Sale Goods and New Stock in the Pro Shop

We have some great bargains to be had and new clothing and shoes arriving for the summer season.

Harcourts Pro Am

You will have received an invitation to come and play this fantastic event! If you are willing to enter a team and sponsor a hole please let Anne know – we need our member’s participation. Harcourts as our main sponsor are a tremendous supporter of our club and have been right behind the Pro Am all the way. January 21 2018 is the big date to keep!

Play the Lie – Placing

You will now find printed on the scorecards placing or play the lie on the scorecards. This allows all golfers to check our local rules on the scorecard during their game.

Christmas Tee Times (we are going old school)

From the 22nd December to 7th of January 2018 we will be running a “roll up and play”. Aka Ball in the Shoot. As foot golf is becoming increasingly popular particularly with families/whanau you may find Centennial the better course option to play.

Maori Golf

From the 7th January to the 12th January 2018 anyone willing to volunteer or assist in the running of the Maori Nationals event come and see Renee or Anne in the Pro Shop. We need on course assistance such as: raking bunkers, course preparation, rubbish removal etc.

Once the entry numbers are confirmed we will be able to inform you of afternoon Tee times available for our members.
